Specialist teaching for Year 8 cohort

“We are excited about the opportunities the programme will bring – personalised learning, in-depth study into academic subjects, and an insight into what Year 9 may hold to help them hit the ground running in 2019.” – Principal, Thea Kilian

ACG Tauranga is drawing on the expertise of its subject specialist teachers to create a tailored learning experience for students in Year 8 during Term 4.

The pilot initiative will see small groups of students invited to work with specialist teachers in Mathematics, Science, English and Humanities. Sessions will take place during students’ normal tuition times and won’t affect their usual timetable.

Principal Thea Kilian said it was about ensuring Year 8 students received the best-possible preparation for the important transition into Year 9.

“We are excited about the opportunities the programme will bring – personalised learning, in-depth study into academic subjects, and an insight into what Year 9 may hold to help them hit the ground running in 2019.”

Students who continue to work within their regular class would also benefit from more personalised learning, she said.

“All students will be given the opportunity to participate based on their own learning needs, and will have an opportunity to discuss their transition expectations and concerns with their tutor teacher in a personalised setting,” she said.

Group sessions will be run during:

  • All scheduled Mathematics and Science lessons
  • Six out of eight English lessons
  • Two out of four Humanities lessons.

Music, Art, Spanish, Physical education and Thinking Skills will continue to run as normal.
